Why am I seeing 4 folders when trying to create a folder in a share folder

Problem/Symptom

Why am I seeing 4 folders when trying to create a folder in a share folder

Solution

After our testing and observing in different environment. The client would retry when the client does not find the permission. And we tested  QNAP, it also have the same problem. We presume that the problem is caused by  windows server, because we did a lot of test as below

The following are the test results in different environment :

  • Using windows 8 test: If only the upper folder was set permission,  you can add a folder, but it will not be renamed.
  • Use QSAN NAS test:

<1> It is the same behavior to use NAS without a join domain.
<2> Next we use NAS join AD, and we use AD account to test this problem. It is divided into several situations:
       (1) Use CIFS and connect to the NAS on a normal PC, log in with AD's account, the same result with 1.
       (2) Use CIFS and connect to the NAS in the AD member, the same result as above.
       (3) Use CIFS and connect to the DC on the DC, there will be the problem of generating four folders
       * Note: (2) (3) Because windows is already in the domain, there is no need to type a password when using CIFS.
